You’ve probably heard the saying, ‘It takes a village to raise a child.’ That sounds good, but what does it really mean? Although parents likely have the most significant impact on a child’s life, this saying tells us that the whole community plays an important role in raising happy healthy kids.

United Way of Kitchener Waterloo and Area has recently teamed up with The Alliance for Children and Youth of Waterloo Region to help mobilize our community to put this philosophy to work. By bringing together child and youth-serving agencies and interested individuals, the partnership is helping to create that responsible and caring ‘village’. This region is full of incredible young people with a wealth of talent and energy. As the region continues to progress and grow, it is important to foster that potential and care for our youngest citizens.

This initiative, aptly named For Kids’ Sake, will promote how important it is to demonstrate that, as a community, we value young people and will act as the spark for changes that are needed to enhance the quality of life for all kids. With your help, we really can become ‘the village that raises the child’.
