Alliance for Children and Youth of Waterloo Region Dreams and Ideas Teamwork

The Alliance is striving to create and support a community where all kids are happy healthy and safe; a community that provides the opportunities young people need to develop to their full potential. Below are some of the dreams, ideas and actions of the Alliance to attain this goal.

Arrow Asset-Builders Regional Event/ National Action Plan

In the fall of 2003, the Alliance will host an event that brings together people from across Ontario currently using the Developmental Assets Model to guide their work. The purpose of the event is to share stories and lessons learned so that we can all make use of the best ideas out there. Conclusions from the Regional Event will be combined with those of three other regional events and will feed into a national action plan on asset building in Canada.

Arrow Communications Strategy / Social Marketing Partnerships

The Alliance is in the process of creating a communications strategy. To accomplish this, some current partnerships are being strengthened, and new ones are being developed. Together we’ll create a plan to effectively promote the value of young people to the general public.

Arrow Early Years Working Group

There has been some interest expressed in creating a group to continue to focus on the value of investing in early childhood development. The Alliance will look at this possibility in the coming months.

ArrowLong-term Plan

The Alliance for Children and Youth is currently working to prepare one complete document that summarizes our long-term outlook.

Arrow Prevention Working Group

A small group has gathered to look at ways to support true prevention work by working to find answers to these questions:

  • What elements of programs and services make them successful prevention efforts?
  • How can we make sure that programs and services are truly accessible to all kids?
  • What myths and assumptions limit prevention work?
  • What other factors present barriers to prevention?
